FIFA World Cup™ Update
JUN

Gerald Köhler Hi All,

we are very glad to present to you a special surprise as our start into the 10th anniversary year of FIFA MANAGER with the release of a free FIFA World Cup™ Update for FIFA MANAGER 10.

The FIFA MANAGER 10 main menu now has a new button which allows you to directly start a new World Cup. As soon as the update is online all you have to do to enjoy the FIFA World Cup™ Mode is to start FIFA MANAGER.

The update will be downloaded automatically. A manual download will also be available.

Additionally, the update will also fix some bugs like “the sprint bug”, the bug concerning the lacking manager shouts in multiplayer mode for international games and some typos. Furthermore, there is significantly improved match calculation for the text mode, the video text mode and the instant results mode. It leads to slightly more goals and to more realistic long-term tables. Some features of the FIFA World Cup™ Mode also made it to the main game, for example several of the new events.

Now we wish you a lot of fun with this update!

Cheers,

Gerald

BAFTA Awards 2010

The 2010 BAFTAs were awarded to games in 16 categories. For the very first time, FIFA MANAGER was among the nominees in the category “strategy”. Unfortunately, we could not win the prize but we had a great time in London. Our congratulations go to Sega who won the price for their Empire: Total War.

In order to properly represent Bright Future and FIFA MANAGER, a delegation was send to the UK. Bernhard and I were the two lucky employees who had the pleasure to join the award ceremony which took place in London.

Our journey to the mother country of football started last Friday. After we landed in Heathrow, we were driven to our hotel to get ourselves in shape for the awards ceremony, which took place in the Hilton Hotel on Park Lane. A lot of representatives from various game studios were present, including some guys from the Football Manager team, who we had a nice little chat with later. When we arrived at the Hilton Hotel, an Oscar-like red carpet welcomed us. Our photos were taken, flashlights everywhere, we almost felt like stars…

After a great dinner, the award show started at 9 pm. Together with our EA producer Adrian Curry we watched the awards and also briefly visited the after party. Since we had some time left on Saturday before our flight back we did a little shopping tour and visited all the great places in London.

Even though we could not win the prize this year, we are very proud to have been nominated for this important British award. We will continue to work hard and give our best to further improve the game. This is why I have to get back to work now

Cheers

Adrian

PS: Maybe some of you watched the Baftas live on www.bafta.org, if not this is the place to find all info and highlights on this year’s event. You can see some photos from our trip in our photo gallery on facebook.

Player Levels
MAR

Gerald Köhler Hi All,

Today I would like to comment on the player level system. After this part of the game stayed the same for several years, we plan some significant changes for the future.

The values will continue to be from 0-100, but the current system of main and secondary positions will change. Each player will now get a realistic level for every position and these levels will be all selectable in the editor. His final level on a position is then the combined level of position level (70%) and the skill levels (30%). Strange jumps while moving the player on the pitch won’t then happen anymore. In addition we don’t have to adjust the player skills to reach a realistic general value. This was always a problem for the database editors. In other words: A player can now reach 99 even when his heading skills are very low.

For the future it is our objective to use the values from 91-99 a lot more and to make sure that the absolute world-class players reach about 95. Experienced internationals of the top football countries should all be around 80 or 85. This will also help to make the differences between the players and teams in the online mode a lot more visible, which helps to make the transfer market and the auctions in this mode even more important.

We will also increase the influence of player experience which has a direct effect on the player level. There is now only one value that combines national experience, international club experience and national team experience. It will now be possible to adjust this value more precisely to make sure the player reaches the next level in the game either a little bit sooner or a little bit later.

Cheers,

Gerald

Coming Weeks...

Gerald Köhler Hi to all,

Update 4 is behind us and all our focus is now on FIFA MANAGER 11.

The first extensive blog containing essential information will go live next Monday. After that, it will be Adrian’s turn. He will present an elaborate special on “player levels” to you. This will be a sure highlight for every FIFA MANAGER fan.

Until then, we wish a lot of fun playing FIFA MANAGER 10 with Update 4. However, there is one more thing I would like to mention. The improvement and extension of our database is an ongoing process which particularly requires your feedback. It would be great if you would help us with your comments, especially if you support a club that is not on TV 24/7.

Cheers,

Gerald
